Angelo Vermeulen is a Belgian artist and biologist who mixes art, science, and technology. His work explores the development of bio-inspired concepts for interstellar exploration, with a focus on self-replicating architecture and biological life support systems. 

For my research blog this week, I focused on two of his artworks: "Biomodd" and "Seeker." "Biomodd" is a socially engaged art installation for his work, which explores relationships between biology , computer, and people. It creates symbiotic relationships between plants and computers. Inside this artwork, have a big glass case, and old computers are placed next to tanks of green algae and growing plants. Moreover, the heat from the computers warms the plants, and the algae cool the computers while cleaning the air to create ideal growing conditions for a plant-based ecosystem. Therefore, this artwork shows that computers and nature can help each other instead of harming the planet.

His another artwork "Seeker" is a huge spaceship sculpture and construction project to explore experiments with technological, ecological, and social systems to rethink the future of human habitation and survival. In this artwork, people need to build self-sustainable systems simulating interstellar exploration to pretend they are flying to another planet. Also , this artwork teaches real ways to survive far from Earth or big disasters.

To sum up, Angelo Vermeulen 's art is show us a clear post-human idea. In "Biomodd", he built computers that live together with plants and algae. The heat from the computers keeps the plants warm, and the plants cool the computers. It shows that humans, nature, and technology can be partners, not just humans using the others. In "Seeker", he make a spaceship sculpture to show that machines and plants can even change and improve themselves without people telling them what to do.

For my research blog this week, I focused on one of his works, called " Oma Totem ," which he created in 2009. This artwork deals with the subject of memory in a way that resonated with me. I am particularly drawn to it, because this artwork tells his grandmother after escaping postwar in Vietnam to Berlin, Germany, using his grandmother 's maternal belongings, including a fridge, a washing machine, a television, and a crucifix, to combine together to make this artwork. For my research blog this week, I focused on one of his paintings, " Shifted Sims #9 (Eco Lifestyle) ". In this painting, Pieter Schoolwerth references the popular life-simulation computer game The Sims 4, specifically a scene from the Eco Lifestyle downloadable content pack. The painting shows a modern, Eco-friendly home with furniture and plants. Three Sims avatars are shown engaging in activities within the scene.
